I’ve been digging through the multiple lists of showcase, bands, day parties, excuses to drink beer and listen to music– for about 5 hours now. Trying to organize my who, what, when, where agenda for the entirety of SXSW 2010. One hiccup. Failed to capture the prized badge, VIP pass or wristband. One victory. An Austinite going out to battle with SXSW. It doesn’t help that my Austin friends avoid the festival like the plague (which probably isn’t the most modern analogy these days… let’s use herpes instead). It does help that all of my outta town friends think it’s a giant party and have invited themselves to crash at my pad. I fall somewhere in the middle. I WANT to go see all the new music and explore bands and sounds that I wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity, but there’s the parking, the lines, the obnoxious drunk people, the how to get the hell home, and, alas, the lack of actual entrance-worthy material. So, although odds are against me, I will battle it out for the paid shows (some of which have amazing line ups– see Stubbs Wednesday night and Austin Music Hall on Friday) and tromp around to the free ones to see what I can explore. Regardless of the experience it will all be outlined in bloody, gory detail for you here. So, if you are enjoying the festival or simply hanging out on the couch you’ll get to experience the experience. Here are a few thoughts on where to land with or without crendentials:
