Ahh…it’s spring festival time in Texas…after SXSW kicks the door open for festival season, we ease into the April milestone of Old Settler’s Music Festival. An annual favorite for those of us at the Austin Daze compound, Old Settler’s regular audience of music lovers are as much of a highlight as the music itself. A sampling of this year’s lineup includes Calexico, JD McPherson, Jeff Austin Band, Billy Strings, Greensky Bluegrass, Bob Schneider, and Ray Wylie Hubbard. Saturday night features festival veteran Sarah Jarosz along with Sara Watkins and Aoife O’Donovan performing together as the new group I’m With Her, the three band leaders setting aside their solo acts to triple down on harmony. The festival is a new location this year that allows room to park onsite and a more spacious camping experience. The festival still has a local barbeque dynasty onsite serving up goodness courtesy The Original Black’s BBQ. We can’t wait to make the inaugural run at the festival’s new permanent home. Bluebonnets blooming, BBQ smoking, craft beers pouring, music playing, and people smiling…what more could you ask for?
